What Is Honey Wine? Mead Explained Simply
Honey wine is wine made by fermenting honey with water. Mead is the established category term; producers may use “honey wine” as a more immediately descriptive name.
Honey wine vs mead
In everyday use, honey wine and mead generally refer to the same broad family of fermented honey beverages. Styles vary widely in sweetness, strength, carbonation, honey source and added ingredients.
What does it taste like?
There is no single mead flavor. Honey source, fermentation, sweetness, acidity, aging and other ingredients can move a mead from crisp and dry to rich and dessert-like.
Is it always sweet?
No. Mead can be dry, semi-sweet or sweet. BEE D’VINE’s own core lineup illustrates this with Brut (dry) and Demi Sec (semi-sweet) versions.
